Raven essential oil uses
While famous for its respiratory benefits, it actually has many uses. Here are the Top 7 applications.
Blocked nose breathing problems
You can apply diluted Raven essential oil topically on your chest and throat area when you have a stuffy nose. You can also inhale directly from the bottle or diffuse in a close room a couple of drops to soothe your lungs. You need less than 1 drop on your palm (yes. It is strong), rub it together then cup your face and take a breath. However, I personally like it to be less direct by applying it on the palm, then cup my throat and rub it from top to bottom.
Best oil for foot massage
Apply Raven essential oil after a workout for sore muscles. Dilute and apply topically to your muscles and massage them for a couple of minutes. This is perfect for deep tissue massage as you gently but deeply press the affected area. The oil can be hot too, therefore it is better to dilute it first.
Natural bath soak
After a long day at work, you could use a soothing soak at home. Add half a cup of Epsom salt with 5 drops of Raven essential oil, toss it into your tub for a pampering bath as it breathes a new life to your body. It is one of the best ways to prepare yourself for deep sleep.
Deep Sleep diffuser blend
Raven essential oil will be able to enhance your sleep by diffusing it. Hey, quality is more important than quantity. 6 hours sleep with 4 hours deep sleep is way better than 8 hours sleep with only 1-hour deep sleep. Just around 5 drops in your Young Living diffuser is enough to intensify your quality of sleep.
Essential oil chest rub
If you have kids, you know how important it is to have a chest rub ready. Kid-safe homemade chest rub using Raven essential oil is literally the best thing I have discovered on my oiling journey.
Add 10-15 drops of Raven into a 10ml roller bottle and fill the rest with carrier oils. You can apply it to your kids’ chest and even yours as a safe homemade chest rub.
Essential oils for focus and energy
Another way to use Raven essential oil is by diffusing it while working. The refreshing aromatic experience, when diffused, will stimulate focus and give a boost to energy.
The naturally occurring components of methyl salicylate, menthol, and eucalyptol provide an exhilarating and empowering experience. Apparently, there is a specific essential oil for kids for this exact purpose. Check out this post.
Musty smell in bedroom
One of the easiest ways to freshen up a musty room is by diffusing 4-5 drops of Raven essential oil. You can also DIY your home spray with a cup of water, half cup of witch hazel, 10 drops of Raven, and 5 drops of Tea Tree Oil. Spray it in the stinky and stuffy closets all over your home. However, this is just a remedy. To prevent the room from getting musty, we need to control the humidity in the space as well such as providing good ventilation. But if you live in a tropical country where the air is damp all year long whether you are indoor or outdoor, you might want to consider a dehumidifier. The musty smell comes from the growth of fungus and it may pose a health risk if remain untreated.
Ravensara Essential Oil.
The name Raven is derived from the plant Ravensara, which can be found in Madagascar.
What is ravensara oil?
Ravensara oil is basically the essential oil obtained from an aromatic plant. The leaf, bark, and fruit are all very rich in essential oil. Two of the most notable properties are that they are potent antiviral and anti-infectious agent. Therefore, common usage is concerning respiratory health.
Ravintsara vs Ravensara
Although the name is very similar, all in all, they are different plants. Ravensara’s botanical name is ravensara aromatic, and Ravintsara is Cinnamomum camphora. Geographically wise, ravensara is native to Madagascar, whereas ravintsara is originally from China. (Now can also be found in Madagascar.)
They both have different unique aromas. As for Ravintsara, it is fruity and sweet, whereas, for Ravensara, it is similar to that eucalyptus and typical aroma oil used for massage. Ravintsara compliments well with eucalyptus or any citrus-based oil. For Ravensara, it blends well with eucalyptus, frankincense, lavender, sandalwood, thyme, and tea tree.
Ravintsara is used to stimulate calmness by soothing stress and anxiety. They are also used to reduce headaches and pain. When it comes to mood manipulation, we have to know that this is a subjective observation. As a guideline, any aroma with citrus will give a feeling of cleanliness. Anything fruity will provide comfort, and anything floral usually represents maternal love and care.
However, bear in mind that even though essential oil is obtained from natural resources, one will still have to consider the dosage as traditionally it is used as a medicine. As a general rule of thumb, always start with small few drops. If you would like to know a specific prescription, please get in touch with your certified aromatherapist.
Safety-wise, these 2 oils are safe given that it is correctly diluted. In addition, the oil can photo-oxidize, therefore avoiding immediate direct contact with sunlight soon after topical application as your skin might irritate.

Frequently Asked Questions about Raven Essential Oil Blend
When Should I Use Raven Essential Oil?
Raven essential oils are multipurpose and can be used for adults, kids, and even as a DIY home spray. Just be sure to start using it in smaller amounts in the beginning and work your way up until you feel comfortable.
Are essential oils safe for cats and dogs?
Diffuse in a smaller amount at a time and look for warning signs from your pets. Always make sure that the door is slightly open and the dog or cat can leave when they feel uncomfortable.
Young Living has their own Pet essential oil products where it has suitable essential oils to be used for your dog.
Unlike dogs, cats have a very difficult time processing essential oils. However, if you choose to diffuse and have cats at home, you do not need to worry because Raven essential oil is pure. As long as the cat can leave the room when diffused oil becomes too much for them.
As for my experience, my cat will sleep until morning when the room is diffused with lavender.
Can You ingest Raven Essential Oil?
For ingestion purposes, please purchase the Young Living Vitality essential oil range only. This is safe and tested extensively by their team. Also on the bottle, it is labeled for topical use and not for ingestion. I am against ingesting any essential oils that are not within the Young Living Vitality oil range. When it comes to ingesting, please consult with a certified aromatherapist if you are keen to know more.
What can I diffuse with Raven?
Lavender, Thieves, and Frankincense are a good complement to Raven essential oil.
