DIY Shower Steamers

What if I do not have a bathtub? Fret not, and we have another DIY recipe for you to try. Have you heard of DIY Shower Steamers? I recently saw it becoming more popular as many people do not have a bathtub’s luxury or the time to soak themselves in one (especially if you have tiny children).

The next best option is to make your homemade shower steamers, or we call it shower melts, as it melts when you start using it.

How to Make Shower Steamers?

diy shower steamers

You will need the below ingredients to make the DIY Shower Steamers;

  • 1 cup of baking soda
  • 2-4 tablespoons water
  • Soap colorants (optional)
  • 10 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 10 drops lavender essential oil
  • 10 drops eucalyptus essential oil
  • Silicone mold (any shape as desired)

First, you need to mix the baking soda and water gradually into a glass bowl. Ensure you wear a glove and swirl it around with your hands until it is thoroughly mixed and reaches a thick paste-like consistency.

Secondly, add the soap colorants into the bowl gradually while mixing them. It will look like wet sand in color. If you do not have soap colorants, it is okay, and you can skip this step.

Next, add the essential oils to the mix. If you prefer to add more than the recommended amount for stronger scents, you can add more Lavender essential oils as it is the mildest oil.

Mix it thoroughly and scoop it into the silicone mold. Press the mixture into the mold firmly. If there is any excess water, just wipe it out with paper towels.

Put the silicone mold into the freezer to dry and set. The shower steamers should be ready in about an hour. Pop it out of the silicone mold and into glass jars with a tight seal.

How to use shower melts?

Arrange 1-2 shower melts just outside the shower stream on the floor of the shower cube. The hot water and steam will eventually melt it, and the scents will waft out. It will create a spa-like treatment but with you standing instead.

One of the best times to use it is when you have a cold and need to clear your stuffy nose. Or you can pop it in your shower cube on days you need a boost.

DIY Bath Salts

After a long day at work, all you want is a long hot bath in peace. It will be better if you get to soak yourself in bath salts to help you relax and get ready for bed.

This is the most straightforward DIY project that you can do on weekends and only take 30 minutes of your life. It is also safe, chemical-free, and fun to make.

How to Make Bath Salts?

You will need the below ingredients to make your first DIY Bath Salts;

diy bath salts

  • 1 cup of coarse sea salt
  • ½ cup Epsom salt
  • 2 tbsp baking soda
  • 25 drops of essential oils (for starters, let’s use Lavender)
  • 1 tbsp of flower petals (dried lavender buds)
  • Jars or bottle with tight lids

First, you need to mix the coarse sea salt, Epsom salt, and baking soda in a glass bowl. Make sure you wear a glove and swirl it around with your hands until it is thoroughly mixed.

Secondly, add the essential oils into the bowl gradually while mixing them with the salts. It will smell amazing and probably a little bit strong since you put in about 25 drops of Lavender essential oils.

Next, add the dried lavender petals or any flower petals you have to the mix. If you do not have any flower petals, you do not have to worry, as it is purely aesthetic.

Mix it thoroughly, scoop it into mason jars or any glass jars with a tight seal, and put it aside, ready for your next “spa at home” session.

How To Use Bath Salts?

Bath salts are added to bathwater to help with physical aches, pains and relieve stress. It will give a spa-like experience at home. Add about half a cup of your DIY Bath Salts to the steamy bathwater and enjoy it.

Apply your favorite body butter or DIY lotion bar (I will share this below) after your bath to seal the moisture.

DIY Lip Balm

Have you ever bought tonnes of lip balm but not finding the one you like? The specific scents that you want are not always available on the shelves. Even if they are available, the price is pretty high.

Let’s make your own lip balm because you need one that smells just like your Citrus Fresh Essential Oil . Or perhaps like your Tangerine Essential Oil

Both essential oils do smell good and have a powerful antioxidant that will make you feel fresh. Moreover, this will be one of the perfect gifts for essential oil lovers.

How to Make Your Own Lip Balm?

You will need the below ingredients to make the homemade lip balm;

diy lipbalm

  • 3 tablespoons beeswax
  • 5 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 12 drops essential oil (Citrus Fresh or any single oils you have on your shelves)
  • ½ oz tin containers

First, put the beeswax and coconut oil into a glass bowl. You need to melt it using a microwave at a low temperature, stir it every 30 seconds until it mixed well.

Secondly, take out the bowl from the microwave and let it cool a little bit. Add on the essential oils and stir them gently.

Next, pour the mixture into the tin containers. You must let it set first for 10 to 30 minutes before sealing the tin containers.

You can label it or glue a tiny ribbon on top of it, and it is ready for gifting. You will have your family and friends asking for the beeswax lip balm recipe the next thing you know.

How Do You Apply Lip Balm?

To apply DIY lip balm to your lips, you can use your index fingers. Start applying from the center of the bottom lips and work your way to the corners of your lips.

Use a small amount of lip balm and apply it evenly to the lips, adding as necessary.

DIY Lotion Bar

Now that you have your bath salts, shower melts, and lip balm sorted, next on the DIY list is the lotion bar.  What is a lotion bar? A lotion bar is an excellent alternative to liquid lotion. It contains a couple of oils that you can find in the kitchen. You can easily pack this with you on your next vacation too!

How Do You Make a Natural Lotion Bar?

The lotion bar recipe will include the below ingredients;

diy lotion bar

  • 1 cup shea butter (or cocoa butter)
  • 1 cup of beeswax
  • 1 cup of coconut oil
  • 15 drops of essential oil (Lavender or any single oils you have)
  • Silicone molds (any shape as desired)
First, you need to mix the shea butter, beeswax, and coconut oil in a double-boiler. Make sure you swirl it slowly until all the ingredients melt.  Secondly, remove the glass bowl from the heat and let it cool down slightly. Then add on the essential oils of your choice inside the mixture. Swirl the ingredients until it is adequately mixed.  Next, pour the mixture into the silicone molds. You must let it cool off completely before you pop it out.  It is also a great gift idea for family and friends. You can pop it out and keep it in tiny glass jars with a tight seal, wrap ribbon around it, and surprise!

How Do You Use a Lotion Bar?

Just rub the lotion bar directly on your skin and allow it to absorb all the goodness. The lotion bar will slightly melt if you rub it on warm skin and make it easier to apply.  Share your DIY projects on Instagram or Pinterest, and let me know the outcomes! #ohsunnyjoy Check out my other articles on Essential Oil Roller Blends that can be great gifts for essential oil lovers too.
